traditional tanning

Some of the softest and most beautiful buckskins were created using the ancient method of brain tanning. Join us to learn how to tan with the methods used by indigenous people. In this two-day class, you will be guided through each step of the tanning process and return home with a beautiful piece of traditionally-tanned buckskin.

The methods learned here can be applied to other skins you may acquire.  Frank and Karen Sherwood will show many of their garments made from buckskin they tanned, including moccasins, a hunting shirt, and buckskin dress.

Come prepared for lots of hands-on experience as you learn this timeless art.

All course supplies are included.  Meals and overnight accommodations are not provided.
