cedar honoring basket (or necklace basket)
Beginning with traditional northwest weaving materials of red or yellow cedar, we weave small intricate baskets which can be worn as a necklace or used to hold sacred items. We often call these Honoring Baskets as they show that even the smallest pieces of cedar have value and can be made into wonderful creations. Bear grass, willow bark, cherry bark or coastal sweetgrass are some additional materials that can be woven into your designs to add variation and natural beauty. An assortment of beads, charms and other embellishments are provided to offer color and whimsy to your weaving.
Each student can weave two to three baskets, as time permits. An assortment of baskets will be shown to offer inspiration for your own weaving design.
