Cedar Berry Basket & Foraging

  • Shelton, WA United States (map)

Cedar and Northwest berries, two symbols the Northwest, merge together in this two day class. On the first day of class students will explore the gifts of cedar and learn how to harvest, prepare and then weave cedar into a beautiful berry collecting basket. The weaving elements of twillwork, twining, x-twining, checker-weave and a diagonal folded rim will be taught as students create the base of their baskets on the first day. Rims will be finished on day two of class, followed by a harvesting trip to the local mountainside for wild berries to fill new baskets. Upon returning to our class site some of our favorite wild berry recipes will be prepared and enjoyed. Come to join in these traditions to return home with your basket, happy tummies, new recipes, and the knowledge to make it your own tradition.
